My family were really happy to discover the Desert Air Motel. Our room was comfortable and immaculate. Great water pressure in the shower. We slept like logs. The owners were professional and incredibly helpful. They gave us great tips for a local restaurant and a nearby hike, so we could have a good meal and take a little exercise before getting back on the road. We’ll be back next summer, for sure.

This hotel is a destination location!! Room was perfect! Ambiance was perfect! And the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us! On a hot day there’s still a breeze under the outdoor shady seating area. Swings for the kids. Affordable stay for a trek into Big Bend and back. Then relax outdoors or in a well air conditioned room.

It isn't fancy... but it has practically everything I need or look for in a road layover . The great rate is only compounded by the cool, relaxed backwater grace of the management, the quiet and serene location, it's "close -at-hand" amenities and a heaping helping of bonus style points just for being here. Just last week, I spent four nights at a downtown Hyatt in Houston... given the choice, I'd rather stay at the Desert Air in Sanderson. Hands down, no contest!

"Clean, vintage charm"

Sanderson is a special place to us and we were delighted to find that new owners are friendly and doing great things with this motel. It's vintage feel fits Sanderson and takes one back to simpler times. We were very pleased at how clean everything was and enjoyed the antique furniture in the room...

"One of my favorite places in the desert!!!"

I have stayed at the Desert Air many times over the past 25 years. Love sitting in the chairs outside and watching the sun go down over the desert canyon to the west. The new owners have put extra attention into maintenance and hospitality. They recognize the significance of this preserved and spotless survivor of the desert and will bend over backwards to accommodate you. Watching sunsets and listening to the distant passing trains here just does something to the soul. If you haven't driven old Highway 90 from Del Rio to Alpine, you've cheated yourself out of some of the best scenery and stops in all of Texas. and the Desert Air is part of that experience. When was the last time you stayed at a motel and wanted to sleep with the door open ? Probably never, but you'll be tempted here.

“Great place to crash.”

You know, for what it is, this is a nice place to stay. It's clean, beds are comfortable and has tables, chairs and grill outside. We sit under the tree in the evening, have a cold one, grill some dead animals and tell lies. We'll be back next year for sure.

“Great clean place to stay.”

this is a great, clean, and affordable place to stay if you ever find yourself driving through the Sanderson Texas area. the rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. the staff is very friendly!! there is a nice picnic area in the court yard area of the motel, so you can BBQ or just hang out with family there. There is also a convenience store right across the street from the motel as well, for snacks and drinks.
