The Breezeway

The area between the motel apartment and the first guest room was originally open and not connected.  In recent years, a roof was installed connecting the two structures and walls put up to make it into a storage area.  The problem with too much storage is you tend to fill it up.  Plus, this eliminated a lot of natural light for the apartment bedrooms.

Our vision for the property includes landscaping the area behind the double rooms, which we call the backyard.  We looked at this storage area and determined it would make a great breezeway connecting the front of the Motel and the backyard.

We started the demolition work the first week we were out here, and it’s been a work in progress since then.  Even with it being in some state of construction, it’s the most comfortable place to sit outside.  The wind really funnels through there and the view of the mountains behind is the motel is really pretty.

This week we finished up the trim work and got to painting the walls.  The ceiling is reclaimed barn metal we found east of Austin.

There is still a little more work to be done, but it’s really coming together.  We will be getting some furniture soon and hope our guests start to enjoy this area!
