Serendipity (Part 3)
/Serendipity (Part 3)
On the last day of our Big Bend camping trip, we decided to take a relaxing dip in the Hot Springs before heading back to our campsite. Everyone is pretty tired at this point of our trip, so we were looking forward to cooking some dinner on our camp stove and relaxing as the sun begins setting. Unfortunately (or fortunately in hindsight) when we got back to our campsite we had a surprise visitor. Evidently when we were reserving our spots the day we arrived, the park ranger mistakenly booked us for only one night at this site. There was another camper at our spot, confused and a little irritated. Once we figured out what happened, we decided to boogie it back to Sanderson. After all, its only 2 hours away, and in Desert Time, that's nothing.
So we hastily packed up camp, surrendered the site to the other camper, and off we drove to Sanderson. The kids made it about an hour, right around Marathon, before falling asleep in an uncomfortable pile in the back seat. We made it to the motel we stayed at 3 nights prior, checked in, climbed into clean, comfortable beds and fell immediately to sleep.
The next morning we awoke fully rested but ended up leaving an hour later than our friends. After stopping at the Stripes for some breakfast tacos and gas, we started our journey back on that same beautiful drive between Sanderson and Ozona. It wasn't until we hit I-10 that we started getting reliable cell service again (oh how I love the lack of cell service in West TX - so peaceful). Shortly after we got on the highway, we got a call from our camping friend, Joe. "Did you guys see that motel across from the Stripes? Its for sale!"
The next morning we start poking around on the internet and find the Motel listing. We call the number and talk with the gentleman representing the seller. We received the seller's information on the motel and start crunching numbers that weekend. Next thing you know, we are planning our next trip to west Texas, but this time the destination is Sanderson!
