Come, Sit, Stay Awhile
/Friends, our courtyard looks so inviting now! When we came up to Sanderson to visit the motel back in May, we all saw the potential of the courtyard space in the middle of the parking lot. All rooms face the area and it seemed the perfect template for creating a community location for guests to relax. When we were there we saw a couple groups use the outdoor seating at night and then in the morning to have breakfast. The only drawback was there was only one shaded table with four seats.
Project #1 in July was building the arbor, which Joe and Nick constructed in two days. These guys are unstoppable when they have a project. Vines were planted and an irrigation system was installed. The thriving grape and wisteria vines will eventually climb up and cover the the arbor. In the meantime, we have installed some shade cloth to provide some shade.
In September, Nick loaded up his truck with a grill and some wood. In one day he built two picnic tables to set under the oak tree. The space feels more complete and we love to see the oak, which the Staveley's planted in the 80's, provide an area for guests to relax in the shade.
Seating in the courtyard jumped from four to twenty, twenty-three counting the swings, this summer. It brings us great joy to see guests utilizing the motel common area and enjoying the fruits of our labor.
