Meet The Desert Air Motel

Meet The Desert Air Motel

Thanks for listening to our back story and journey to Sanderson!  We don't mean to distract you from the real star of the show...the motel!  We have some fun ideas and improvements to make, but in actuality, this little roadside inn is charming and functional as is.  If you take a look at reviews left by travelers you quickly get the sense that the motel is clean, comfortable and a nice stay.  We tend to agree with those statements.

Right off the main strip

Right off the main strip

Located right off highway 90, which turns into Oak Street running through town.  The motel is situated in an 'L' shape off the main road, directly in front of the Stripes gas station (good breakfast tacos when freshly made!)  The motel has a grassy area in the middle of the parking lot with a large oak tree, shade, seating and a grill.  We saw this area used for gathering into the night with one crowd and for an outdoor breakfast picnic with another (that first crowd was likely sleeping in).

The rooms are unassuming, yet comfortable.  The walls are constructed from cinder block and painted white, which gives the hotel a vintage and desert feel all at once. The rooms have antique wood furniture that several guest reviews have commented on.  I heard one guy likes coming here because the furniture feels like grandma's house.  The bathrooms have pink tiles...there's that vintage feel again...and are bright and clean.  Just outside the doors are chairs for sitting under the covered porch.

We found an old postcard for sale on Amazon.com of the Desert Air Motel from the 1960s.  This postcard quickly became a source of inspiration on how we plan to spruce up the place.  We know the renovation of this motor inn will be fun and a great story.  Stay tuned for updates on these adventures.

In the meantime, we are dedicated to providing clean, comfortable rooms for resting and shaded outdoor areas for relaxing.
